Footballers Kaka, Lucio and President Rousseff endorse Rio games as Olympic torch arrives in Brazil ahead of Olympic games

The Olympic torch flame has arrived in Brazil this morning for the start of a torch relay that will culminate with the opening of the Olympic Games in Rio in August. The torch was flown inside a small lantern on a special flight from the Swiss city of Geneva to Brazil and was lit by embattled President Dilma Rousseff.


President Rousseff who might not last till the beginning of the games as president said, 'Brazil is ready to host the most successful Olympics in history.'

Other football stars like Kaka, Lucio and a host of athletes were present and endorsed the Rio Olympic Torch's arrival.
The torch will be carried around Brazil by 12,000 runners. It will pass through more than 300 towns and cities from the Amazon to Brazil's southern border, arriving at the Maracana Stadium in Rio on 5 August for the kick off of the Olympic games.

Pope condemns paedophilia as new details of 6 year old girl's murder and rape emerges in Italy

Pope Francis used his weekly Sunday message to denounce paedophilia, following the emergence of new details surrounding the alleged rape and murder of an Italian girl- child in 2014.

The Pope’s comments followed new revelations in the case of a six-year-old girl who died in June 2014, after allegedly being thrown from an eighth-story balcony in Naples.
A 43-year-old man is being held in a prison in Rome charged with throwing the girl from a housing block in a deprived area of the city after raping her, following a re-opening of the case. The man has denied the charges.

“This is a tragedy. We should not tolerate the abuse of minors,” said Pope Francis, in his message and blessing at St Peter’s Square.

“We must protect our minors and severely punish abusers.”

The Pope has vowed a “zero tolerance” for abusers in the Church, however victims groups have accused him of not doing enough.

Presidents Biya, Buhari Merge Ambitions

The two leaders expressed their determination at a State banquet in Abuja organised in honour of Cameroon’s Presidential couple.

It took well over two hours for Cameroonian and Nigerian leaders, President Paul Biya and Muhammadu Buhari respectively to go through the items programmed for the State banquet organised in the Nigerian capital, Abuja yesterday evening.

Accompanied by their wives, Mrs Chantal Biya and Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, the evening’s ceremony which took place in the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, witnessed a medley of activities epitomised by the speeches of the two Presidents. It was equally spiced by five different dance groups, one of which came all the way from Cameroon.

As one would have expected, the two Presidents used this occasion to once more announce their determination to eradicate the Boko Haram insurgency while expressing their deep felt sympathy to the families that have fallen victim to Boko Haram attacks.

They equally renewed their commitment to identify the diverse areas through which they can hinge cooperation between the two nations and enhance economic development. This will among others take the form of regular economic forums organised in both countries with the aim of strengthening and formalising trade between the two countries.

Step-father rips out uterus of disabled pregnant teen he raped & burns the home

A couple have been arrested after the body of the woman's disabled pregnant teen daughter, Holli Jeffcoat, was discovered in a partially burned home with her uterus ripped out. The teen's step father James Holland was arrested in March on three counts of rape and 1 count of murder.

Investigators have accused Holland of raping his step daughter several times going back to as young as when she was 8 years old. Suspicions of sexual abuse first came to the surface following a 2008 car crash in which Holli was involved. A blood sample from the teen, who at the time was only eight-years-old, revealed she had an STD but he denied it.

Investigators think the teen's mother, Debi Holland knew about the abuse and even aided her husband to carryout and cover the abuse of her own daughter.  Debi is also suspected of preventing medical exams on her daughter which would have determined she was being brutally molested..

After years of abuse, Holli finally told officials at her school, as well as the Children's Advocacy Centre, that she was pregnant with her stepfather's baby. One official said Holli said she didn't want to go home with dad because she didn’t want to have sex.

Debi was also arrested after her daughters body was found but she has reportedly denied any knowledge of what was happening to her daughter by her husband.

Cameroonian man praises US police for putting gas in his car (photos)

A Cameroonian man by name Ebai Bisong, narrated how he ran out of gas on the highway and was help my a police in Oklahoma City last week.  

"Hello. My name is Bisong, originally from Cameroon. I was driving from Norman to Oklahoma City last week, trying to get away from the possible tornado. I ran out of gas and was stuck on the highway. I didn't know what to do. This officer showed up (believe he is a sergeant) and helped me out. I rode in his cruiser and got gas, which he himself put in my car while I watched him. Please, I want you guys to celebrate him. I don't know his name but here are the pics I took.Great job Sgt. Burris!", wrote Oklahoma City Police Department.

Congolese deputy minister caught on camera masturbating, President fires him after he trends on Twitter (+18 photos)

Democratic Republic of Congo president, Joseph Kabila has fired the Deputy Minister of Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Enock Ruberangabo Sebineza, after a video of him masturbating on webcam while on office duty leaked on the internet.

The 54 year old deputy minister, filmed himself in his office, with the Congolese flag and the picture of the president behind him, and blowing kisses at someone in the web cam before bringing out his genitals from his trouser and masturbating. He then used a handkerchief to clean himself up...

When he was done, he smiled towards at the camera and continued with his work in the office.

Congolese citizens on social media reacted quickly to the video and created a hashtag #sebinezaMustGo which went viral, the president succumbed to public pressure and fired the minister on the 30th of April, 2016.

He is said to be a notable Tutsi of the Congolese Banyamulenge community and has been a President of his community, Shikama, for many years.

About time! Woman sues Starbucks for $5 mil over too much ice in cold drinks

$5 million or even a lawsuit might sound ridiculous to some but I am fully behind you Stacy Pincus! I can't count the number of times I have had to pay a full amount for "a glass of ice"! Stacy Pincus is a brave Chicago woman, who has filed a lawsuit against Starbucks for more than $5 million, claiming the coffee giant regularly overfills its cold drinks with ice instead of using the advertised amount of coffee or other liquid in its plastic cups. She accused Starbucks of false advertising and consumer fraud, adding that they serve its customers much less than advertised.
The lawsuit alleges that an iced beverage advertised at 24 ounces contains about 14 ounces of fluid, and that ice isn't a fluid or beverage.

"A Starbucks customer who orders and pays for a cold drink receives much less than advertised — often nearly half as many fluid ounces," the lawsuit states, adding that the practice is "by design and corporate practice and procedure."“Starbucks includes these three black lines on its cold drink cups to ensure that its employees fill these cups with less fluid ounces than are advertised on Starbucks’s menu for a given cold drink,” the lawsuit says. “In fact, Starbucks instructs its employees to provide its customers with fewer fluid ounces than advertised.”

In the lawsuit, Pincus also challenged Starbucks’s pricing, saying it charges more for cold drinks than hot ones. An average Grande Iced Coffee, advertised as a 16-ounce drink, costs $2.65, while a hot Grande Freshly Brewed Coffee costs $2.10.

“Essentially, Starbucks is not only underfilling its cold drinks compared to how they are advertised, but it is charging a premium price for them as well,” the filing reads. “Starbucks’s cold drinks are underfilled to make more money and higher profits, to the detriment of consumers who are misled by Starbucks’s intentionally misleading advertising practices.”

However, Starbucks dismissed the lawsuit as “frivolous and without merit.” 

“Our customers understand and expect that ice is an essential component of any ‘iced’ beverage,” the coffee giant said in a statement. “If a customer is not satisfied with their beverage preparation, we will gladly remake it.”

Starbucks, has more than 23,000 stores worldwide, reported $19.2 billion in net revenue in 2015, a 16.5 percent increase from the previous year.

A lot of people think Pincus is only trying to get free money and that her lawsuit is dead on arrival at any court.

Mom gets 1 month in jail for assaulting her 15 month old baby while on a plane

A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced a Hawaii mother of seven,  Samantha Leialoha Watanabe, to a month in jail and three months under home confinement for assaulting her 15-month-old daughter on a flight from Alaska. A jury convicted her of assault after last year's trial where prosecutors alleged she cursed at her daughter, smacked her on her head, hit her in the face with a stuffed doll and yanked out some of her hair during the May 2015 Alaska Airlines flight. Passengers who witnessed the assault reported her to airplane workers who reported her to the police.
She was arrested as soon as she disembarked from the plane and her child taken from her by authorities.

Her public defense attorney argued the allegations were made up by judgmental passengers who didn't like how Watanabe looked and dressed her child. The attorneys said Watanabe didn't do anything beyond disciplining her child who was fussy during a long flight.

Public defender Alexander Silvert told the judge Watanabe is breastfeeding a baby she gave birth to prematurely last month. It's her seventh child. She agreed to let the boy's father have custody, but she sees the infant frequently enough for nursing, Silvert explained.

He added that Watanabe doesn't have custody of any of her six other children, including the girl she was traveling with when she was arrested. That she has led a hard life of drugs and homelessness, but has made improvements to her life since her arrest, from anger management to mental health and drug treatment, he said. Silvert asked the judge not to condemn her for that life.

"It was poor parenting skills that got us where we are today," Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Wallenstein said in requesting the judge sentence her within a guideline range of four to 10 months. "No one in any socio-economic class is allowed to assault a 15-month-old child."

But the judge  sentenced her to one month in jail and 3 months of house arrest, advising her to use the 30 days at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center for reflection.

She has until May 10 to surrender to authorities to begin her sentence.

Donald Trump knocks out Ted Cruz in Indiana, emerges GOP candidate

GOP hopeful, Ted Cruz has dropped out of the presidential race after suffering a loss to Donald Trump at the Indiana Primary on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

Trump had earlier expressed confidently that he will be winning be in Indiana.

Cruz while speaking to Washington post said:

"I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there is a viable path to victory. Tonight, I’m sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed. We gave it everything we’ve got. But the voters chose another path. And so with a heavy heart – but with boundless optimism, for the long-term future of our nation – we are suspending our campaign."

Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus then announced on Twitter that Trump will now be the presumptive GOP nominee.
