University student burnt to death in Ngaoundere

Twenty one year-old Mahatmad Baha, student enrolled in a Master Degree Program in Electrical Engineering at the University of Ngaoundere has been ravaged by fire.

The event which occurred on 27th March 2016 on Easter Sunday has kept many wondering as nobody could determine what caused the fire.

Neighbors however affirmed that a huge fire erupted after an explosion was head in the room that evening.

In spite of the efforts put in to save the life of Mahatmad, the violent flames were hard to contain.

After the fire was quenched, the remains of Mahatmad Baha were found in his bathroom and taken to the Ngaoundere Hospital Mortuary by the Police in Patrol at 9pm.

Evidence gathered from the scene points to the fact that the victim must have been seeking for refuge in his bath room where the flames were not as intense, unfortunately before getting there, a great portion of his body had already been consumed.

In the absence of substantial evidence, speculations are rife that there must have been a serious leakage of his gas bottle.

Due to the consistent electricity cuts, it is believed that the deceased in the course of lighting a candle ignited the gas from the bottle leading to explosion and flames.

Yaounde Prostitutes increase price to 2000frs for a "shot"

Prostitutes in Yaounde are threatening to suspend their services if the price does not see an increase from current 300 to 2000 FCFA

According to the matron of prostitutes in the city of Yaoundé, operating in the market sector of Ekounou, the decline in fuel prices since January is why they have decided to increase the price of 1,500 CFA for a shot and 15,000 CFA francs for one night.

According to them, taxi drivers and road bikers make up 60% of their clientele. Those who will benefit from lower fuel prices must pay up to to 2000 FCFA.

They say it is also because of competition from girls who patrol in town for a bottle of beer and are willing to spend a night with a man they have decided to run this increase.

Note that prostitution is illegal in Cameroon and punishable by imprisonment but the Cameroonian government is doing nothing to fight against prostitution that is gaining ground in academic areas of the city.

Photos: 27-year-old former Indian model commits suicide, leaves note which said she was mentally and physically abused by husband

A 27 year old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her apartment in south Delhi’s Defence Colony Friday night, March 27. The woman, identified as Priyanka Kapoor, was found hanging from the ceiling fan, said police. Her family blamed Priyanka’s husband Nitin Chawla,  for her death, claiming that he abused her. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.


That fateful night, the former model's mother was unable to reach her on the phone. When the family went to her residence, they were prompted to call the police after finding the door locked from inside.

According to the police, at 12.30 am on March 27, they received a call from Priyanka’s family members, who said her room was locked from inside and she was not responding to their pleas to open the door.

"We broke open the door with help from fire brigade personnel," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Prem Nath.

The sub-divisional magistrate is conducting an inquiry, said Prem Nath, adding that police had recorded Priyanka’s sister Dimpi’s statement. “Dimpi alleged that Chawla subjected her to physical and mental abuse over dowry demands,” he said.

A senior police officer said a two-page suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which Priyanka, reportedly said she was scared of her husband.
In the note, she said

‘This is the biggest mistake of my life... marrying him... I am scared’,” said the officer.

A case has been registered against Chawla under Section 115 (abatement of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) , 498A (husband or relative... subjecting her to cruelty), 304B (where death is caused by any burns or bodily injury or occurs otherwise) and 34 (common intention).
Police said Chawla, who runs a pub in GK II market, was facing financial problems. “He had not been able to pay his rent for the last two months,” said the officer, adding that the couple often fought over money issues.

Priyanka married Nitin in January this year. She worked at an event management company and had met Nitin at his pub, said police. Nitin has two children from his first marriage and his son lived with him and Priyanka, said police.

Priyanka reportedly was not happy about this arrangement, said police. However, her family said this was not true as Priyanka loved children.

"I have known grief, I have known happiness, sadness and emotions, but my husband made me helpless for the first time" the note reads. "Nitin has a rape case on him registered in Mumbai. I never knew he would do so bad to me. He beat me like a devil just after a month of wedding. When I asked him to call my family he beat me hard. I had married Nitin just because he told me he loves me unconditionally. But now he asks me to leave his house. I broke my relations with my mother just because of him. He is a selfish man,"

Priyanka further goes on to write how she had expected to receive love and instead was only subjected to pain and regular beatings for petty issues. Priyanka also accused her mother-in-law stating that according to her, 'whatever Nitin did was not wrong'.

"Nitin wanted me to leave his house, so I am leaving the world."

According to senior police officials the couple used to fight a lot as was confirmed by some neighbours as well.

"The accused had also not paid house rent and as a result confrontations between the couple had ensued. He also had issues with her going to clubs. When Nitin's 10-year-old son from his earlier marriage came home, Nitin had an argument with Priyanka. He asked her to leave the house," said the officer.

The suicide note also states how the former model spent her last moments waiting for her husband.

"Nitin has not come home since the last three days and only sent a message on WhatsApp to vacate his home," the note reads.

10 simple ways to enjoy office romance without any of your colleagues

Office romance happens in an office environment based on so many factors. Some of these factors include: the position of the individuals involved; the personality of the person, if he or she is popular among his colleagues; how handsome or beautiful the person is; how humorous, accommodating or honey-quoted mouth the person is, especially for the male workers; the nature of the job, if it creates time for people to move around from their office to other offices, among so many other reasons and factors.

A male or female worker, who wants to have his or her way, practicing office romance, must be smart and cautious. This is because office relationships sometimes do boomerang, especially if a male worker is charming and almost all his female colleagues want him as their guy.

Sometimes, office relationship could lead to marriage. It could lead to problems on the other hand.

For instance, if the man involved is incriminated by his female colleague, in case the man is a senior colleague in the office, and wants to force himself on the lady, by a form of threat through text messages or chats or e-mails or phone calls. The lady, who is not interested in the relationship, could inform the authority about her travails. If the authority investigates the case, and discovers the man is guilty, the next thing will be nothing, than to show him the exit door, by sacking him.

On the other hand, there are many restrictions in some offices. In case you find yourself in either of these two stated work-places, be smart, to know how you play your game, so that you don’t get your fingers burnt at the end of the day.

3. Go to work separately

Immediately you have attached yourself to a person in your office, try as much as possible not to go to work together, or even go home together frequently. You may be shocked; to know some of your colleagues do observe every move you make together with the lady or the guy. Your colleagues will know if something is fishy, when they see both of you go home together and come to the office together often. If you continue doing this for a whole week, or more, the bubble might burst on you.

4. Do not give him or her any special treatment

Co-workers will start reading your body language. Some of your colleagues will watch out for non-verbal signs and symbols, when you discuss with him or her. If you are always ready to help him or her out in an office task, leaving other colleagues to take care of themselves, then you are exposing your anus to the whole world. One of the interesting things about life is that, some people are more interested in your own affairs than their own life. Therefore, watch out!

5. Do not rush when the relationship starts

When you pick your choice among your colleagues to date, take it one step at a time. Do not lord yourself over him or her. Let things work out naturally. When you start the office romance, treat him or her casually, so that your colleagues will not raise an eyebrow.

6. Do not let the relationship take over your duties in the office

7. Never go for lunch break together frequently

When it is break time, ensure not to go out together with him or her. You can go for lunch break with your other colleagues, so that you won’t stir the hornet’s nest. Two of the important words to know in office relationship are: smartness and cautiousness.

8. Do not stay too long with him or her when having conversation together

There are times when something will bring both of you together in line of duty. Both of you could be asked to jointly do a presentation or do an in-house training for other colleagues.

In case both of you are field journalists, and you are told to go for a field assignment, there is the opportunity of both of you coming together during the assignment. But, do not discuss salient issues, or stay together for too long, whenever a third party shows up and interrupt your discussion, or while both of you are in the office together.

9. Do not mention his or her name when you discuss

You should be smart enough not to show your feelings or blush, whenever you talk about him or her. Just talk about him or her, the way you talk about your colleagues, whom you have no office relationship with. The reason for this is that, there are some of your colleagues, who admire you so much, but they will never show it, or make the mistake of telling you. Therefore, you should behave to everybody in the same manner during discussion. No preferential treatment please.

10. Never fix a meeting at an eatery or a hotel close to your office or to your colleagues’ house

One of the reasons office romance goes with its own risk is because some of your colleagues, are interested in your personal affairs, even outside the work environment. Some of them may want to visit you or go out with you. If you decline an invitation from a male or a female colleague, who shows interest in you, he or she will want to know, who your soft spot in the office really is, and the rendezvous for both of you. Do not disclose your meeting place, even to your closest pal in the office. Likewise, do not meet at a place, known to your colleagues.
