The Nigerian Army said on Saturday that it had put in place machinery to establish the true identity of a suspected leader of the Boko Haram sect, Jarasu Shirawho was apprehended last week in Borno. Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Deputy Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri. Irabor said that identifying the true identity of the suspect was to avoid past mistakes where individuals were arrested based on mistaken identities.
"We are in custody of a good number of suspected terrorists that were apprehended as a result of our routine operations. "One of those suspects is believed to be on the list of our 100 most wanted terrorists' leaders," he said. Irabor, however, said that the army must ascertain the true identity of the suspect before final confirmation to the media.
"There are checks that must be done before final confirmation, facial attributes tended to show that he is the one. "But then, there are other things we need to do to ensure that is he who we said he is, " Although the facial attributes confirmed he is the one, but it is not just by looks alone.
"We have had cases where we had mistaken identity, only to come up. to say we are sorry, that is what we are trying to avoid this time," Irabor said. Shira is believed to be the sect leader around Damboa-Chibok- Askira axis of Borno before he was apprehended. He is believed to be one of the masterminds of the Chibok Girls abduction on April 14, 2014.

Woman shot to death for declining a man’s advances at a local bar

A Pittsburgh mother of two was shot and killed on Friday (Jan. 22) after declining a man’s advances at a local bar. Janese Talton-Jackson, 29, was found lying in the street on North Lang Avenue at approximately 2 a.m., after a shooting was reported in the Homewood area.
The assailant, 41-year-old Charles McKinney, was later taken into police custody after a brief chase.
According to reports, Talton-Jackson was approached by McKinney at Cliff’s Bar, where she declined to speak with him. McKinney then followed her as she left the bar, and shot her in the chest. As authorities arrived on the scene, McKinney was the subject of a traffic stop when he heard an officer’s radio announce a nearby shooting. He sped off, and police chased him and fired shots after him. He was captured after crashing into a parked vehicle, taken to a hospital to treat his wounds, and charged thereafter.

McKinney faces charges of homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, firearms without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude police, two counts of possession with intent to deliver, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving, WTAE reports.
“I just think it’s sad. Somebody has to do something about the gun control, it’s just getting out of hand and it just [isn’t] safe to walk the streets no more,” one man told CBS Pittsburgh.

British explorer dies of dehydration crossing Antarctic just 30 miles short of goal

British explorer Henry Worsley has died attempting to be the first person to cross the Antarctic unaided, in an epic charity mission inspired by Ernest Shackleton.
The 55-year-old former British Army officer died after being airlifted to a hospital in Punta Arenas, Chile, suffering severe exhaustion and dehydration.
The father-of-two was found to have bacterial peritonitis (a bacterial infection in the abdomen), after having trekked around 913 miles unaided across the South Pole -- just 30 miles short of his end goal.

With David Beckham
Worsley was 71 days into his record-breaking solo mission to complete the legendary British explorer Ernest Shackleton's unsuccessful crossing of Antarctica in the early 1900s.

But Worsley was forced to call for help on Friday amid blizzard conditions, and in poor health he was airlifted to hospital.

Worsley's last statement sent from Antarctica said:
"The 71 days alone on the Antarctic with over 900 statute miles covered and a gradual grinding down of my physical endurance finally took its toll today, and it is with sadness that I report it is journey's end -- so close to my goal."
Prince William, a friend of Worsley and a patron of the Shackleton Solo Expedition, said he and his brother Prince Harry were saddened by the news.
"He was a man who showed great courage and determination," he said. "We are incredibly proud to be associated with him.
"Even after retiring from the Army, Henry continued to show selfless commitment to his fellow servicemen and women, by undertaking this extraordinary Shackleton solo expedition on their behalf."
Worsley's wife Joanna said:
'It is with heartbroken sadness I let you know that my husband Henry Worsley has died following complete organ failure; despite all efforts of ALE [Worsley's expedition team] and medical staff at the Clinica Magallanes in Punta Arenas, Chile.
"Henry achieved his Shackleton Solo goals: of raising over £100,000 ($142,000) for the Endeavour Fund, to help his wounded colleagues, and so nearly completing the first unsupported crossing of the Antarctic landmass. A crossing made, under exceptionally difficult weather conditions, to mark the 100th anniversary of Sir Ernest Shackleton's Endurance expedition -- his lifelong hero."

Photos: Meet filmmaker who replaced his eyeball with a camera to conduct documentaries

This filmmaker has taken a bold step towards becoming a bionic journalist by replacing his eyeball with a minute camera.
Rob Spence lost the use of his eye following a shooting accident when he was nine.
But decades on, the Canadian documentary maker had the idea of replacing the eye with a camera.

Spence - who now calls himself Eyeborg - said the eye-cam allows him to conduct interviews without the intrusion or distraction of bulky cameras or film crews.

But due to the technology within the camera, it can only be used for three minutes at a time without overheating.

Spence said:
"Literally everybody [said] it as a joke - ‘Oh, you should get an eye camera'.
"The two reactions are, ‘Wow, that’s so cool’ — and, after a few moments’ reflection, ‘But that’s so creepy'.
“I’ve actually started wondering, do we want to have constant video of our lives? It’s just another data set. And I don’t know the answer, but I think no, we don’t want that. But it’s coming anyway."

The eye-cam resembles a regular prosthetic eye but it is embedded with a camera.
Spence cannot see out of the lense but a what the 'eye' can see is visible from a handheld monitor.

The 43-year-old can switch the camera on and off at the tap of a button.

Outrage as bullfighter shares photo of him taunting bull while carrying his baby

A bullfighter has sparked outrage after he posted a picture showing him taunting a bull with a red cape while holding his baby daughter under his arm.
Francisco Rivera posted the picture on Instagram, on which he has 53,000 followers, showing him with his five-month-old baby just inches away from the bleeding and enraged animal.

The renowned bullfighter, aged 42, nearly lost his life last year when he was gored by one of the animals in Huesca, Spain.
He says his daughter, Carmen, is the fifth generation of fighters in his family and he was "goaded" both by his grandfather and father to continue a "tradition".

He said he had also been held by his father while he was fighting a bull in a similar way.
He wrote:
"Living history is repeated. "It's living the best legacy, feeling, purity, honour."
Animal campaigners are incensed by the move and say the pictures have offended many people as what he did was "irresponsible".
Others have accused him of endangering the life of his child.

The animal rights party, PACMA said: "Shame! Fran Rivera fights with his daughter in his arms.
"It's totally contrary to education about the respect of animals."
One Twitter follower said: "I am speechless!" whilst another commented: "Poor Carmen!"
In just 13 hours after the picture was posted, it received more than 130 comments but not all were derogatory.
One said: "Lovely picture to remember" whilst another tweeted: "Ole ole ole. "What a great image to lavish upon us."
