Zayn Malik breaks 3 records with his first solo album, credits success to 'smoking weed'

Fomer One Direction star Zayn Malik has set a new record as the first UK male artiste to debut at No.1 in the U.S charts with his first solo album meaning he has effectively knocked out Adele from the number one spot.

Zayn has also become the first UK male artist to reach the top of the American charts in 28 years after George Michael’s 'Faith' in 1988.

And if that wasn’t enough, Billboard also say that Zayn is the first UK act to debut at number one since One Direction released their first ever album in 2012, Up All Night.

His album 'mind of mine' with hit track 'pillow talk' reached number one in an amazing 83 countries on iTunes within 24 hours of it's release.

‘I’ve probably been smoking for a while,’ he told NME. ‘I don’t wanna say when I started because I don’t want to influence anyone else. That’s just something I do myself. It helps sometimes with the creative process, if you’re smoking a good weed.’

Photos: Indian supermodel Carol Gracias walks the runway while heavily pregnant

Carol Gracias, Indian Supermodel and former winner of the must coveted India’s L’Oreal/Elite look of the Year title, walked in Hyderabad-based designer Gaurang Shah’s show at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai last week, while heavily pregnant.

Apart from walking the runway in high heeled shoes, Carol is 37 years of age, which is a very unusual occurrence in the runway business.
‘I have been doing his shows for many years now, so this time as usual he called and asked if he could book me. I told him I was pregnant and he still asked if I would walk for the show’ Gracias told the Hindustan Times.
‘So, I gave it a thought, and realised that the clothes to be showcased are meant for all kinds of women…I thought if the designer would like me in his show, then why not? I really enjoyed the experience.’

Photo: See what a teacher did to a pupil for mispelling a word in a dictation lesson

An elementary pupil in northern Vietnam was left with bruises on her face and eyes after being hit by her teacher for misspelling in dictation class last Friday April 1st.

Hoang Trong Phu, deputy head of the Bureau of Education and Training in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province, confirmed that the incident took place at Phin Ngan Elementary School on Friday, when T., a first grader, misspelled a word in the dictation lesson taught by Tran Thi Thu Tra.
According to the teacher’s report, after seeing T. writing too slowly and making a mistake, Tra used a ruler to strike the student’s face. After being hit, T. displayed no changes to her facial appearance and continued studying, Tra said in the report.
Chao Ke May, T.’s mother, said that she saw two of T.’s friends help her daughter come home from school.

"My kid’s face was swelling and there were bruises near her eyes," May recounted, adding that T. was very upset at the time.

As household aid yielded no positive result, T.’s family said that she was transferred to the Bat Xat general hospital for medical treatment with bruises around her eyes and the surrounding facial area.

The girl recovered but she has to stay in the infirmary for further treatment, doctors said.
Tra said that she offered an apology and medical payment as compensation to the family.

The teacher is currently suspended from teaching and strict sanctions are currently being discussed, said the district’s education bureau.

"Strict measures must be enacted to purge school violence," leaders of Bat Xat District’s Bureau of Education and Training insisted.

Animal rights activists try to shut down China dog meat festival

A group of animal rights activists are trying to shut down an annual summer dog meat festival in southern China which has been blamed for making the country's international reputation look bad, as well as fueling extreme cruelty to canines and unhygienic food practices.

Activists said on Monday that they will continue to press for the festival to be banned as well as press for legislation to outlaw the killing of dogs and cats and the consumption of their meat.

Accordingto research, about 10-20 million dogs are killed each year in China. The dog meat festival will take place on June 20 in the city of Yulin.

Yu Hongmei, director of the VShine Animal Protection Association, said China needs to follow the example of developed nations that have banned eating dog and cat.
He said:
"China needs to progress with the times,". "Preventing cruelty to animals is the sign of a mature, civilized society."
Restaurant owners defended themselves by saying eating dog meat is traditional during the summer, but animal activists say the festival that began in 2010 has no cultural value and was merely invented to drum up business.
In 2014, the local government disassociated itself from the event and forbade its employees from attending and limiting its size by shutting down some dog markets and slaughter houses.

As much as the activists try, over 10,000 dogs, many of them stolen, still wearing their collars, are slaughtered for the festival held deep inside the poor, mainly rural Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

ISIS kills 15 of its members for 'spying' following assassination of senior ISIS chief

ISIS has killed 15 of its members for spying on them, in what is the largest execution carried out by the terrorist organisation on it self. This comes following the assassination of senior Islamic State terrorist boss, Abu Hija al-Tunisi, who was killed on Wednesday in an air strike. Some senior ISIS figures feel some of it's members snitched on the terrorist organisation.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the 15 military commanders were killed in a countryside near Raqqa for 'espionage and corruption on Earth' and 'impersonating al-Hisba (ISIS religious police) members'.

It comes as another monitoring group today said a leader of an al-Qaeda faction in Syria has also been killed in a U.S. air strike in Idlib.
According to the SITE Intelligence Group, Abu Firas al-Souri, a spokesman for the Nusra Front, was killed along with his son and several other people.

ISIS has suffered major defeats in Syria over the past months amid intense airstrikes by Russian warplanes.
The Syrian army command said in a statement that troops have 'restored security and stability to Qaryatain and farms surrounding it'.
