EDITORIAL: Why U.S Embassy in Cameroon Should Re-Think Some of its Visa Rigidities

Michael S. Hoza: US Ambassador to Cameroon
Michael S. Hoza: US Ambassador to Cameroon

The story of Christina Rose, a resident of Bafia in the Centre Region of Cameroon is pathetic, yet not an isolated one. It’s been over seven years since the husband gained asylum in the U.S.
In the U.S, filing for asylum requires every applicant to list the names of immediate family members including spouses. This is necessary for any future reunion.
Right after gaining asylum, Christina’s husband petitioned for his family – wife and four children to join him in the U.S. Christina and the children followed all required procedure at the U.S embassy level in Cameroon, including medical examinations and DNA tests on the kids to determine that they actually belong to them.
The kids – all got their visas, the mother was denied. Christina was asked to present a phone record of communication between herself and the husband and she did. After, they asked that she provide the embassy with money transfer records from the husband to her, she did. But this didn’t change their decision. Upon denying her the visa, the Embassy said Christina’s marriage certificate wasn’t for real – that it was fabricated. She presented the Embassy with photos from their traditional and Church wedding ceremonies which should easily determine for how long they have been married, judging from the age and quality of the pictures, but the Embassy still didn’t grant her a visa.
It’s been almost four years since the children left their mother to join the father in the U.S. That too, however, created a second problem. Three of the children are in their early teens and one by U.S standards is a minor. The minor, The Journal gathered, has since become so depressed that it attracted the attention of her Maryland school authorities. It was determined that the separation from her mother is the reason for her depression. As a result, the father had to give-up his full time job to provide additional support to the child. And not only is he not able to take care of the children alone, he now cannot provide for them on the paltry income he makes from a part time job.
Thiers isn’t an isolated case. There are many other Cameroonian families out here with similar predicaments – their families have been separated for the mere fact that genuine documentation for visa processing has not been furnished the Embassy in Yaounde.
The source, recalls that in May last year, Roberto Quiroz II, Embassy Public Affairs Officer and Nick Castellano, Assistant Regional Security Officer, speaking over CRTV’ s Morning Safari radio program, lamented how the high rate of fabrication of fraudulent documents for visa applications in Cameroon, has led to Cameroon being top on U.S Visa denial list in all of Africa.
With this background information, The source in January, sent in a request for an exclusive interview with the Consular Officer. The Public Relations Officer told us – not until after numerous follow-ups, that our request was forwarded to the Consular. Our editor who was in Cameroon waited for more than a month – leaving Cameroon February ending without a word from the Consular Officer or any other competent authority.
We interpret the Consular’s decision to ignore our request, snobbish and condescending. At least, we hoped for a reply to the effect that the Consular wasn’t immediately available – that would perhaps, have settled it. But we didn’t get that courtesy. Such treatment can only happen in Africa. The Consular Officer will not treat any American news organ with such negligence, recklessness and disrespect – not in America!
That said, we do not think at The Cameroon Journal, that the American Embassy in Cameroon is deliberately making it extra difficult for Cameroonians to obtain visas. Cameroon’s documentation problems are complicated and ridden with fraud. From both high and low places, the country has become so corrupt that at times conducting forensics is necessary to determine admissibility and legitimacy of documents and certifcates. Think for a second about land certificates, birth certificates, and school certificates, among others. Getting a genuine one can be as hard as the proverbial – a Carmel passing through the eye of a needle.
However, The source thinks that the Embassy can exercise restrain when it comes to those situations where photo and or video evidence are available. Consider marriages performed say more than fifteen years ago, when nobody really cared about acquiring those documents – there are always other means of verification to ascertain the legitimacy of the marriage. This is very important because, until very recently nobody in Cameroon cared to go for those certificates during weddings. But at least, they had photos and in some cases, videos.
In the case of Christina Rose where photos of both her traditional and church ceremonies exist, we think it should be an easy case to settle going by the age on the photos. For the sake of the four kids now in the care of a single parent, it will not be unnecessary for the embassy to revisit the case.
If the embassy keeps on enforcing all of the stringencies without considering the social realities of the people fifteen to twenty years ago, it will continue to build a wedge between families where it ought not to be.
Trying now to get couples who were married in the eighties or early 90s to produce marriage certificates will only continue to feed the falsification and fabrication industry in Cameroon.

10 Keys to Make Millions Blogging

Thanks to the undisputed market-changing power of the internet, people today have found more and more ways to get themselves out into the world and to make millions of dollars while doing it. Perhaps one of the most unusual and profitable ways to earn this type of money is by blogging. There are many influential bloggers out there today who have millions of followers from all over the world and millions of dollars in the bank.

There is no denying that finding this type of success in blogging takes work, but the right individual, with the right idea can earn millions while blogging. There are a few keys to becoming a millionaire blogger. These simple, yet effective, tips may be just what you need to transform your blog into a millionaire’s blog.

1. Create constant content.

One of the first keys to becoming a millionaire blogger is to start a blog. Aside from all of the tips and tricks of different things that will catch a reader’s eye, you need to focus on constantly creating content. There is no better key to success then constantly creating and delivering new content. The more information you offer people, the better.

2. Have genuine expertise.
People will believe what you are saying if you have real, first-hand experience. Utilize your own experiences and insights while blogging. Anyone can read information online and regurgitate it back to the public. A real expert has real experiences to back their story.

3. Make your information entertaining.

The way that you write your content is really important. If you are starting a blog that is very informational, then it can be easy to write your content in a very dry tone. However, just because your information is serious it doesn’t mean that it needs to be dry. Do your best to put an entertaining twist on your content, even if your subject traditionally isn’t the most entertaining. The more engaging and lighthearted you can be while blogging, the better.

4. Tap the power of testimonials.
Testimonials are your best friend. Use as many of them as possible. Whenever you have a happy client, use their testimonials to prove your validity.

5. Promote on social networks.
Social network exposure is perhaps the most important accompaniment to any blog. You need to have an Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn account and more and link all of your social media accounts to one another. The bigger your reach can be the faster your track to becoming a millionaire blogger is.

6. Mix it up with videos.

So many bloggers think that writing is the only way that they can communicate with their audience. However, true millionaire bloggers know that sometimes it’s best to switch things up and keep them interesting. Reach new readers and keep people intrigued with videos, it is an exciting way to deliver your information in a more visually engaging pattern.

Pictures are a really important part of any quality blog. You can use pictures to add interest to an entry so it isn’t all texts and you can use pictures to promote ideas and posts on social media. With this in mind, make sure that you are investing in high-quality photos. This picture investment can really go a long way in making you seem more credible and drawing in new readers.

8. Give people value.

Above all things, you blog posts should be providing people with value. You want to pass value on to your readers. You want them to want to check back with your blog to find out new information. The more interested they are in what you have to say, the better off you will be.

9. Keep things fresh.
It is nice to have some sort of structure to your blog style, but you need to remember to keep things fresh. Don’t be afraid to try new types of posts, new types of images, new content and new formats. If you do everything the same every day, people can start to lose interest.

10. Offer lots of free value.

You need to have free content with tons of value, plain and simple. Not all of your content needs to be free, but if you want to build up your following and really get the type of attention that millionaire bloggers have, you need to provide people with lots of good quality content for no charge.

Madonna invites a female fan on stage then pulls down her top during a concert in Australia

Madonna who has been acting erratic since the beginning of her world tour did something really bizarre last night.
She invited a female fan on stage then pulled the fan's top down exposing her left breast. The fan and the audience were all shocked. After she did that she said:
'This is the kind of girl you just want to slap on the a**'. Then added 'Oh s**t. Oh sorry, sexual harassment.'
Id the fan isn't one of the people that was planted in the crowd, she might sue her for sexual harassment but who knows.

She's being behaving really odd during her concerts. People have complained that her concerts have been marred by mumbling lyrics, late starts and stumbling choreography. In one show she begged: 'Someone please f*** me', while drinking from a fan's hip flask.

According to Daily Mail, people thought the fan was going to sue Modonna for the humiliation because according to Australian law it is a crime to touch someone indecently without their consent, but Queensland police told Daily Mail Australia that no complaint has been lodged.

Fru Ndi, Lawan Bako at War Over Claims Biya Finances The SDF

SDF Chairman John Fru Ndi
John Fru Ndi, Chairman of the opposition SDF party, is at war with El-Hadj Lawan Bako, Chairman of the Bamenda based United Democratic Party, UDP, following claims by the latter that President Biya has been financing the SDF.
Bako who also doubles as spokesman for the presidential majority, a coalition of political parties that ally with Biya’s CPDM party, is a well-known negotiator and mediator between the Biya regime and other interest groups in Cameroon.
Sources told The Cameroon Journal that Bako was first used by the Biya regime in 1997 to initiate talks of a unity gov’t between the SDF and the CPDM.
When Bako approached Fru Ndi for the deal, we gathered, the SDF National Chairman assigned late Justice Nyo’ Wakai and the then SDF Secretary General, Tazoacha Asonganyi, to represent the SDF at the talks. Peter Mafany Musonge and Joseph Charles Doumba, then Prime Minister and CPDM Secretary General, respectively, led the CPDM side of the delegation. The talks collapsed in 1999.
We also gathered that it was yet Lawan Bako who spearheaded negotiations for President Biya to receive Fru Ndi in Bamenda for the first time, during festivities marking the 50th anniversary of Cameroon’s armed forces in 2010.
When pressured to divulge how President Biya has been financing the SDF directly and indirectly, Bako chose to go hypothetical.
Hear him: “Take note that it was President Biya who instructed the CPDM to campaign for the SDF senatorial lists in the Adamawa and West regions in 2013. The CPDM communication secretary, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, was seen on CRTV television with an SDF senatorial campaign ballot paper telling CPDM councilors in Adamawa and the West regions: “…Votez SDF. At the end of the election, the SDF won 14 senatorial seats; thanks to President Paul Biya who is also the CPDM national chairman…”
He added that “the 14 senators which the CPDM gave the SDF have added much to the party’s pay package because they are financing the party. If somebody gives a job to your son and your son uses the finances he gets from that job to help you, you have to thank the person who gave him the job. In this case, the SDF has to thank President Paul Biya ceaselessly. He deserves to have cold water from the SDF and not blistering hot wate.” Bako said.
Fru Ndi response to Bako’s claims
Contacted for his reaction to Bako’s claims, John Fru Ndi, first got upset that his quiet moment was being interrupted just so he could respond to the pontifications of somebody he described as “a nobody, an opportunist, regime’s bootlicker and mail runner.”
When we reminded him that Bako does not merit to be addressed in such terms because he is the national chairman of a political party like him and the spokesman of the presidential majority, Fru Ndi thundered: “Is being the spokesman of presidential majority a profession? If he is the national chairman of a political party, let him tell me just how many councilors his party has ever had.”
Ndi continued; “The likes of Lawan Bako are spoilers who take advantage of the efforts the SDF put in, to force democracy down the throats of the Biya regime to look for food. They move around with business cards and the beggar’s bowl in the name of being members of the presidential majority…” Fru Ndi said.
While vehemently refuting the allegations that Biya has been financing his party, Fru Ndi, who acknowledged that the UDP Chairman is a regime insider, challenged him to produce evidence to back his claim.

When reminded that Bako said President Biya is financing the SDF indirectly because he instructed CPDM councilors in the Adamawa and West regions to vote for the SDF senatorial lists in 2013, the SDF national chairman fired back saying: “Lawan Bako is a very stupid politician! Does he not know that Mr. Biya and the CPDM have been rigging elections in this country? I know Mr. Biya has compensated him with the post of SNH board member because of the dirty jobs he has been doing in this country, but let him not provoke Cameroonians.”
Fru Ndi explained that the CPDM instructed its councilors in the Adamawa and West regions to vote for the SDF list not because they wanted it. “The CPDM took that decision after they realized that they were caught in their own trap. Mr. Biya knew that there could be no senate short of 14 senators, so he decided that in the absence of what he wanted, he should just do with the devil which was the SDF.”
Asked if he remembers that as a regime negotiator, it was Bako who negotiated the meeting between him and Biya in Bamenda in 2010, Fru Ndi wouldn’t say yes or no, but retorted: “If Lawan Bako says he was the one who negotiated for Mr. Biya to receive me in Bamenda, let him tell Cameroonians if during that visit, he too was received by Biya.”
Bako Strikes Back
Following the publication of Fru Ndi’s reactions to his allegations in a local daily, Bako issued a press statement dated March 17, choosing rather to go personal on Fru Ndi.
In the statement, he said; “Mr. Fru Ndi said I am stupid and a nobody. Let Mr. Fru Ndi be told that before the SDF was created, he was using a 505 Peugeot car while I was using a Mercedes car along with 505 SR automatic. If they take away the SDF chairmanship from his tittle, he will see his level.” Bako said.
Rather than provide evidence Fru Ndi requested, Bako rather struggled to proof he is a better family and business man than the SDF chieftain.
“I have nine children of which two are PhD holders, including a medical doctor and two engineers. How many does he have? I am not a failure in life but a progressive gentleman from birth”, he wrote, questioning “Did he (President Biya) rig the senatorial elections which he (Fru Ndi) contested in the North West region and was beaten?”
He reiterated that President Biya’s CPDM campaigned for SDF to win 14 senatorial seats in 2013. “Fru Ndi should ask himself why President Paul Biya did not ask CPDM to vote for Bello Bouba’s UNDP which has an alliance with the CPDM.”
Lawan Bako also asked rhetorically whether Fru Ndi can deny the fact that like other parties represented in the National Assembly, the SDF receives money from the state. He also asked whether Fru Ndi could tell Cameroonians his relationship with El Hadj Baba Dan Pullo of the CPDM Central Committee and whether he has ever given him financial support and for what purpose.
