Cameroon’s defence forces in a second cordon-and-search operation inside the Nigerian territory in the locality of Kumshe, killed 92 Boko Haram fighters and freed 850 villagers made prisoners by Boko Haram.
Cameroon’s Communication Minister, Issa Tchiroma Bakary in a press release said the offensive in Kumshe, located some 15 kms from Cameroon’s surrounding villages in the Far North Region, and took place within February 23 to 24. He said the country’s defence forces carried out the operation under the banner of the First Sector of the Multinational Joint Task Force, backed by Special Units of the Alpha and Emergency 4 Operations and in perfect synergy with Nigerian forces.
Besides killing Boko Haram militants, Tchiroma said the soldiers also seized explosives, detonators, detonating cords, suicide bomber-jets and other products used to actuate the explosives. They also destroyed the enemy’s training camps and a tactical vehicle mounted with a heavy weapon, recovered several weapons including a 12.7 millimeter machine gun, AK-47- type assault rifles, a 60 mm commando mortar, grenades, hunting and trafficking weapons. Furthermore, tens of charger boxes and thousands of ammunition of various calibers were recovered and Boko Haram various propaganda seized.
The attack in Kumshe came a few weeks after a similar one carried out in Ngoshe. Tchiroma said after the attack that Kumshe is confirmed, “As one of the main logistics bases and an important decision-making centre for the criminal actions plotted and launched by the Boko Haram terrorists towards the Cameroonian territory.”
