An anti-corruption commission has probed the telecoms sector in the central African country and says several companies, including MTN, collectively owe $166 million in unpaid taxes.JOHANNESBURG – MTN says it’s still waiting to see a copy of a report claiming it owes the Cameroonian government millions in unpaid taxes.
MTN’s Chris Maroleng says, “We are in full compliance with these tax matters and consistently engage with the government of Cameroon. We haven’t received a formal copy of the report, when we do we’ll get back to them with our position on some of the allegations.”
Meanwhile, MTN is contesting a $3.9 billion fine in Nigeria, for failing to disconnect users with unregistered sim cards.
