Official photos from the Urban Jamz Awards

The first ever edition of the Urban Jamz Awards took place on April 16th 2016 at the Banquet Hall of Chariot Hotel, Buea-Cameroon. According to our source the event was well organised and classy. Everyone was shocked when stanley Enow aka King Kong promised Ewube a free collaboration when he took the stage to receive his award. Mr Jovi did not show up as usual even though he won Urban Jamz's Best Album Award with his album titled Mboko God.

Is he at it again! Jovi releases a statement on why he wouldn't be attending the 2016 Kora Awards

Jovi wouldn't be attending the 2016 Kora Awards. The following is a statement from his record label...
Statement on Jovi Attendance for the 2016 Kora Awards
March 11, 2016
We would like to announce to our fans that Jovi will not be attending the 2016 Kora Awards. We are very appreciative of the professional and cordial communication we have had with the Kora Awards committee since August 2014, when they first expressed interest in Jovi. While we have had a great relationship with the committee and organizers, we have still not received any information on Jovi’s travel arrangements, even though we have requested details since January 2016. It is not feasible for us to continue to put other projects and engagements on hold, while we wait for information. We have done our best to promote the awards show, created material to promote his nomination, discussed it in interviews, and heavily encouraged our fans to vote. With less than one week left before Jovi is scheduled to leave, we have had no response to get information available for us to plan our itinerary, and we prefer not to scramble at the last minute to make arrangements. We SINCERELY appreciate all of the fans who have voted for Jovi’s Mboko God to win Best Album. We would not have reached this far without your support! Jovi is proud to represent Cameroon for the Kora Awards, and we wish all the nominees and the Kora Awards committee the best of luck! Thank you to all the fans that have spent funds texting, voted online, and shared the nomination. We hope to work again with the Kora Awards in the future.
Sincerely,
New Bell Music.

Revelations!!! "Jovi Underestimated Me...I Didn't Quit, I Was Fired" - Tilla

Last year, October 2015, Tilla shocked fans when she took to her Facebook to announce that she was no longer under the New Bell Music, without really giving any reason behind the sudden move. Fans started speculating about the reason behind God Mother's departure from New Bell Music. Contrary to what fans and the media perceived that Tilla quit the label, she was indeed fired by her boss Jovi. She seemingly proposed a money-raising project to Jovi, which met a strong resistance and misunderstanding.
The following is an excerpt of what Tilla said while being interviewed by a popular radio Station...

“I’m someone who is very entrepreneurial. I just gave alot of ideas …so many business ideas but apparently this idea , the label didnt want. I had it all planned out. so I spoke with Jovi. I had this project . I was actually very excited because I thought the label will be very happy and proud of me that I did something. It was going to raise over 2 million frs and was going to help buy books too for some of the schools. Besides that it’s the profit we would’ve made. So I was very confident the label will be very proud of me but to my greatest surprise that wasn’t the case. I guess they thought someone wrote the project for me or I wasn’t loyal or I went to some other people or something. I must say there was a misunderstanding, like a misjudgment. He probably was very quick to judge me because the project was that good and I was talking about millions . It probably seemed like I didnt come out with it . He underestimated me. So he was like are you sure about this. I said yea. We can do this for real. He is like … so you are not using the logo right. I was very confused like why will I not use the logo. I’m bringing the project to the label and the label can do what they want. Our manager was Sulja at that time. He’ll talk with him. I said okay cool. So we spoke about it and he said let’s see how this thing is going to work. I was very confident about it. The next day at about 11pm I was sleeping. He called me and he actually told me this. I have some his words. I still remember how he said like u know about what we talked about I spoke with my partner. His partner is Rachel and we both didn’t agree with it. So sorry . We don’t want to work with you anymore . You are free to go. We don’t have any problem. I feel like you are ready to go. You sound ready. I said yea I’m ready. He said it like five times. You are free to go. Now is back to square one. He used those words. That made me write that song. He said I was back to square one. It’s over. Thats the truth. I didnt quit. I was fired. I was just trying not to raise any fire . I waited for like a week but I saw that it was serious . It was actually happening. I was like where is this from .That was when I said to myself I can do this. Okay lemme move on now. That was when I posted it on Facebook. It was like a week after. Every one thought I just decided to quit on his birthday but that wasn’t the case. I didnt think it was his birthday. I was just so surprised. He misunderstood me. He actually thought I was working with someone else. Like someone wrote that project. But that was just me sitting in my room brainstorming and writing stuffs. I guess that was the mistake. I felt very sad. But I said to myself it’s cool.

NEW MUSIC: KALEWALE MAKES THUNDEROUS WAVES ACROSS WEST AFRICA (video)

The name J MIC may sound new to the Cameroonian populace but; this prolific artist has risen to take center stage flipping and rapping from the golden sands of the United Arab Emirates. J Mic whose curriculum vitae strings back from his humble crawling days as a rapper/dancer in Buea where he obtained his university degree, has rebutted and resurface with a killer single “KALEWALE” (which is is an Arabic word that means I don't care) which highlights his success story as a hustler and also showcases his fast paste melodic rhyme and rap.

We’re psyched to be able to see J Mic’s single “KALEWALE” come out with a state of the arts music video produced and directed by Cameroon’s filmmaker Chia Kisuh “Da Revelation” and audio produced by Drae Boi aka 'Mr 808'.

J Mic, who began his career performing both as a freestyler and dancer for free at local fraternity functions, has taken off on good footings as he records massive turnouts for concert attendance in AbuDhabi and recently received a standing ovation at the DXB MIC night in DownTown Dubai.

Ahead of J Mic’s first international tour, he recognizes the top shots in Cameroon hip hop frontline; J Mic comes with so much determination to complement the works of the likes of Stanley Enow and Jovi… KALEWALE is a must watch... KALEWALE is a must share, KALEWALE is THE NEW CAMEROON THING.

"I Was Never In The Studio With Akon" - Jovi

Ndukong Godlove Nfor, better known by his stage name Jovi has been credited by many for his musical ingenuity and enormous contribution to the positive wind of change blowing across the music industry in Cameroon. The 32-year-old rapper recently had the opportunity of  having his work appreciated and used by the multi-international awards winner, Akon.

"Shine the light", a track from Akon's comeback album "Stadium" was originally composed and produced by rapper/producer Jovi. A few of us have been  wondering how the pair linked up and worked together. Our questions have been answered thanks to the chat OkayAfrica had with Jovi.
The following is the chat the media website had with Jovi...

How did you link up with Akon?Akon came to Cameroon to do a concert and the VP of A&R of Konvict Music at the time, Fotemah Mba (T’Mah), came with him. T’Mah is originally from Cameroon. He met Je Wanda Magazine founder Celine Fotso and expressed an interest in meeting me. Celine Fotso arranged a meeting between us, so we made a trip to Douala to see him. We met him at this hotel and we played him our music for him. That was a day after the Akon show.
Did he know your music?I don’t know if Akon knew my music. But I was a fan of Akon’s because I grew up listening to him. A lot of African kids of my generation grew up listening to Akon’s music.
I came to him with the beat and the idea for “Shine the Light.” [The song] was going to be the opening track for Mboko God. I played it for T’mah and he liked it. He asked if he could give it to Akon to listen.
What was the inspiration behind your beat on “Shine The Light”?The guitar line and the vocal sample were written and composed by me. The vocal sample was inspired by the way the church choir sings in my village. I wanted it to have that feel. The vocal sample I composed constitutes of three vocalists who contributed their voices: Daddy Black, Reniss and myself. I composed the guitar melody and Mt. Cameroon (aka Fracoise) replayed it.
I also contributed the lyrics for the chorus. That chorus was part of the song and instrumental track I sent. Akon did the verses after I sent the song. I wasn’t in the studio with him. It was done remotely, but we talked on the phone a couple times.
I’m very happy that someone I respect as much as Akon appreciates and supports my work. It inspires me to create more, and encourages me to continue to use African influences in my music.
