Naya Rivera and her 7-month-old son Josey are featured in May issue of Fit Pregnancy and Baby magazine. The 29-year-old Glee actress welcomed her first child with husband Ryan Dorsey in September.
"You are always going to wonder if you are doing things wrong, but that's what it means to be a mom, to care so much about someone else that you want to be perfect as possible," Rivera told the magazine.
The actress revealed she she completely let herself go all through her pregnancy.
"I completely let myself go...Weight wasn't something I wanted to focus on, so I ate anything and everything and had a blast. Afterwards, I was like, 'Let's get back to business'"
Rivera dropped all sugary snacks as soon as Josey was born. She says the combination of nursing, healthy eating, and low-impact exercise helped the first 30 pounds come off. But she knew the second half of her 60-pound weight gain was going to take a lot more effort.
"My closet was divided in half: On one side were maternity clothes and other side were clothes I thought I would never wear again," she says.
Since she knew she wanted to be back in front of a camera, Rivera made getting in shape a career and invested on a trainer.
"I know I’m lucky. Not all moms can afford one,” she concluded. “But I’m not really self-motivated. And I don’t know what to do at the gym. I always feel lost. [Without a trainer] I’d probably just end up not working out, and then go to the steam room."
Rivera began taking spin classes three days a week, and the trainer focused on her core during workouts. I did a lot of weight training, which I had never done before… I was wearing maternity gear while working my butt off."
Four months after Josey was born, that magic moment happened: She could fit into a pair of her favorite leather pants again. Says Rivera, "I was, like, 'Yes!'"
