Governor Mdjiyawa Bakari of the Far North Region has told members of local vigilante groups in the region to integrate witchcraft in the ongoing war against Boko Haram terrorist group.
Bakari on January 28 in Mora had an evaluation and mobilisation meeting with members of vigilante groups from Bonderie, Limani, Kolofata, Kerawa and Mora all of Mayo-Sava Division, The Post newspaper reported citing the northern-based newspaper, L’Oeil du Sahel.
“The Head of State, Paul Biya recommend you integrate into the fight against Boko Haram the use of witchcraft. We expect from each village brilliant action in this direction,” Bakari declared. He further instructed that, “We want to hear that this or that village destroyed or limited the damage of the sect through witchcraft. Fight for you country. Get involved actively.” He appealed.
Reports say the vigilante group members who also believe that Boko Haram fighters are involved in witchcraft, welcomed Paul Biya’s proposal. By urging the vigilante group members to integrate the mystical aspect in the war against the terrorists, reports say, government is recognizing their important contribution in the war to eradicate Boko Haram.
Bakari used the meeting to decorate nine members of the different vigilante committees who had distinguished themselves in the field by acts of bravery. He also handed government’s financial support to all the vigilante groups to motivate and strengthen their capacity in the fight
