Three of Nigeria’s football stars have made the list of the top ten richest African football players of all time.
According to a study conducted and published by French publication,
Footendirect, Chelsea star, Mikel Obi, Kanu Nwankwo and Austin Okocha
are among the ten richest African players of all time.
But of the new generation of players, Mikel’s $50million cumulative
take-home makes him the best paid in Nigeria, while Kanu Nwankwo and Jay
Jay Okocha who have since retired, made $100m and $150m respectively
from their career.

1. Samuel Eto’o/Antalyaspor: $202million
Samuel Eto’o, a former Barcelona star is the highest paid African football star ever.
2. Yaya Touré/Manchester City: $170million
The reigning BBC African footballer of the year is also a big earner on the continent.
3. Didier Drogba/Montreal: $155million
The Chelsea legend is also another top earner on the African continent.
4. Jay-Jay Okocha: $150million
The former Super Eagles of Nigeria skipper was once the highest paid African player.
5. Nwankwo Kanu: $100million
In spite of his generosity with the Kanu Heart Foundation, the former
African footballer of the year is still one of the highest earner in
Africa.
6. Michaël Essien/Panathinaïkos: $70million
Essien’s career may have nosedived, but his earnings did not crash at the time.
7. Emmanuel Adebayor/Libre: $57million
The former Tottenham Hotspur forward is known to show off his exotic range of automobiles.
8. Obi Mikel/Chelsea: $50million
The arrival of Mikel’s twin babies may have added some fortune to the Chelsea’s star’s wealth.
9. Kolo Touré/Liverpool: $43million
The former Arsenal strongman, who has had to maintain a place on the
bench for lengthy spells, is still one of the richest on the continent.
10. Sulley Muntari/Al-Ittihad: $40million
Sulley Muntari’s travels seem to have earned him a fat salary base.
